Community Engagement Officer

The Organisation:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Community Engagement Officer to work in a temporary assignment with a high performing government department responsible for engaging with people with disabilities, their families and carers and understanding their needs. 

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing initiatives for the region, working closely with government departments, the disability sector and various community agencies.

Your Duties:
  • Assisting with the planning and leadership of community engagement
  • Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders both regionally and nationwide to support effective communications and engagement activities
  • Be the primary contact for the communications and engagement needs of the region
  • Produce content via different mediums such as print, digital and event materials
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to a variety of stakeholders
  • Promote consistency within workplace practice in accordance with agency values

You will need an empathetic nature and a strong understanding, or perhaps have previously worked within, the Disability sector.  You will also have strong professional acumen and be patient, using judgement and diplomacy where required and have standout communication skills.  You will need strong communication skills and tact when dealing with sensitive matters, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work unsupervised using your initiative and problem-solving abilities.
You will be able to respond to and prioritise competing and often urgent priorities in a calm and efficient manner while also maintaining high level of service and accuracy, along with an ability to build and sustain relationships and strong partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
