Engineer – Roads and Structural Assets – Initial 6 Month Contract. Your new company:
Located in the heart of Sydney's CBD area , this Local Government Council is Sydney's most historic and reputable councils. Your new role and accountabilities and duties:
Assist the Principal Engineer in the development of future works programs and implementation of the City’s asset management strategies to ensure that the City’s civil assets perform to optimum service.
Assist the Principal Engineer in ensuring that civil infrastructure constructed by developers and others meet the City’s standards.
Undertake technical, risk management and condition investigations of civil assets to ensure conformance with appropriate asset management plans, policies and procedures.
Assist the Principal Engineer in ensuring that the City’s Corporate Asset Management System (CAMS), asset inventories, associated data, reports and recommendations are based on sound engineering practices and procedures.
Prepare feasibility assessments, concept designs, budgeting and prioritization for assets within the team’s responsibility.
Assist with procurement related activities and managing contracts
To be held accountable for working conditions under the control of the position and for detecting any unsafe or unhealthy conditions or behaviour and to take immediate steps to investigate and rectify any risks to health, safety and welfare arising from any activity.
Investigate public complaints and address the issue in consultation with the team in a timely manner
To prioritise and budget proposed works in a timely and accurate manner.
To assess proposals and recommend appropriate conditions for civil assets constructed by developers and others to ensure infrastructure meets the City’s standards.
To undertake technical review of roads, footpaths, kerb & gutter, bridges, foreshore structures, steps and retaining walls related design, drawing and technical reports submitted by the consultants, developers, and others in relation to the assets to be renewed or to be handed over to the Unit.
To engage external consultants and contractors in the delivery of civil designs, investigations, construction and provision of services to meet City objectives and policies.
Ensure the City’s estimating rates, specifications, standards and pavement designs are based on sound and effective engineering practice.
Assist in the evaluation, monitoring and condition assessment of a range of civil infrastructure assets including but not limited to roads, footpaths, kerb & gutter, bridges, foreshore structures, steps and retaining walls.
Investigate and report with recommendations on risk management, general engineering faults and complaints associated with the City’s civil infrastructure to ensure conformance with appropriate asset management plans, policies and procedures.
Comply with and keep abreast of any relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position.
Assist the Principal Engineer to prepare and review annual capital works justification and the prioritization of works for renewal and improvement programs for the City’s civil infrastructure assets.
Assist the Principal Engineer to define potential budget needs and works for future capital works program for civil infrastructure assets.
Deliver feasibility assessments, concept designs, estimates and prioritisation of civil assets for asset renewal and for works relating to the implementation of the City’s strategies. Monitor, measure and report on compliance to the achievement of these strategies.
Represent the City in public situations where required including community consultation workshops.What you'll need to succeed:
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Experience in structural design in Australia using various materials that include concrete and steel related to bridges, foreshore structures, steps and retaining walls.
Experience in road pavement analysis and design, visual assessment of civil assets (e.g. roads, footpaths, kerb & gutter, bridges, foreshore structures, steps and retaining walls), recognition of defects and their rectification requirements.
Experience in inspection, prioritization and developing maintenance and renewal programs for bridges, retaining walls, maritime assets and footway assets.
Experience in the preparation of briefs for the engagement of consultants and the management of contracts.
Experience in asset management techniques including, Asset Management Systems ,condition assessment and development of short and long term Asset Management Plans.
Highly developed oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and negotiation skills.

Class C driver’s license.
Knowledge of the functions, obligations and operations of Local Government.
Demonstrated experience in Geographical Information Systems.
