APS 5 Community Engagement Officer - Federal Government  

The Opportunity
This centrally based Federal Department is seeking an experienced Community Engagement Officer to join their team. Based in Sydney, the Engagement team works across a portfolio and is responsible for ensuring the proactive and strategic delivery of community stakeholder engagement, information and education. Working within the Disability Sector, this role will see you contribute towards the strategic direction for the allocated portfolio and support the portfolio leadership to promote and implement the strategic management of community engagement programs with targeted content and engagement activities.
The Role
As a Community Engagement Officer, you will:
  • Utilise your strong understanding and experience to proactively deliver engagement activities and projects within the portfolio
  • Provide input and feedback into the production of content and messaging
  • Represent the Agency in stakeholder interactions in delivering clear, concise and effective messaging.
  • Support local engagement at external forums and public events
  • Maintain cohesive relationships with relevant internal stakeholders
  • Other duties may include research, data entry and analysis, reporting and other general support for the team 
**Please note, this role may include intrastate and interstate travel so the flexibility to travel is a must.

About You – Skills and Experience Required

To be considered for this position, you must have:
  • Excellent communications and engagement experience
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • An ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high work standards and accuracy.
  • Experience in building relationships both with internal and external stakeholders
  • An ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment
  • An understanding of or lived experience within the field of disability would be advantageous.
As this role is within the Federal Government, applications are required to hold Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency in order to be considered as entry level security checks will be required for all successful candidates and dependent on the role the appropriate working with children and/or vulnerable people checks may need to be undertaken as per State Legislation.
