Analog Engineer

We are seeking a suitably qualified Analog Electronics Engineer with strong basis in analog and digital fundamentals to work with the Mechanical Engineer / Draftsman and Digital Electronics Engineer to design, build and test a new system.

The Electronics Engineer is responsible for developing building and testing, protoype and production electronic hardware to be used as a neutron detector system. The system is based on a gated intensity signal from a photomultiplier tube (PMT) high-gain, low-noise, light detector connected to a preamplifier and ADC. The PMT and ADC are COTS components. The preamplifier, preamp power supply, shielding, packaging, cabling and integration into the mechanical systems is the responsibility of this role. The system must produce a high-quality signal with very low inherent noise, the system needs to be modelled and the susceptibility to noise known for any proposed configuration. This information will then be used to inform design decisions to optimise the system for prototyping and testing.

Primary Skills
  • Diversified knowledge and experience in electrical systems, electronic design, analog/digital design, power electronics, electrical system design.
  • Board level design and testing.
  • Prototype coordination, harness design and development, simple electronics packaging conceptualisation.
  • Detailed PCB layouts using Altium Designer
  • Produce high quality reports and records of results from modelling and testing
Required Skills and Education
  • An engineering degree in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering or Electrical and Electronics engineering.
  • Experience in Analog Electronics Design, able to model analogue systems and optimise their design.
  • Build and test prototypes and field deployed systems
  • Understanding of basic detector operation and signal chain electronics (low-noise preamplifiers, high-speed pulse amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, etc.).
  • Electrical/electronic drafting/design.
We are seeking a highly motivated self-driven individual with strong knowledge of electronics system design for a 3 – 6 month contract located in a Southern Sydney location.
