Clinical Coder - North Brisbane

As a Clinical Coder, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Abstract and verify relevant information in the clinical record; assign accurate ICD-10-AM codes and perform DRG grouping according to the Australian Coding Standards, State Coding Authority and legislative guidelines within designated timeframes
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding practices and standards
  • As part of the coding process, complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications and collect/flag clinical indicator and audit data
  • Utilise the 3M Web Codefinder software, relevant patient information systems and related pathology and associated databases to assist in verification and allocation of codes
  • Knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, medical practices, pharmacology, diagnostic and procedural terminology
  • Codes clinical records through the extraction and verification of relevant data and information
  • Develops more effective and efficient work practices through self-auditing knowledge sharing and education of clinicians and staff on coding issues and requirements
  • Consults and negotiates with clinicians and other staff in influencing how patient records are to be completed
  • Provides advice and data on requests for coding related information
