Construction Manager

Our client has successfully been operating for over 45 years here in Sydney and has worked hard to gain a reputation for quality, safety and honesty within the construction industry.

Projects include Electrical substations, Local Government Authority (Council) buildings, Sporting infrastructure, Warehouses, Commercial projects and refurbishments.
You will be responsible for:
  • Construction management of multiple projects running at the same time, including organising and delegating tasks to staff, other departments, and multiple trades.
  • Continually managing and allocating project resourcing ensuring all projects have sufficient support
  • Oversee the day to day running of our construction teams at a high-level capacity and possess the capability and skill to focus in on issues that may arise and manage them accordingly with your team.
  • Work closely with our HSEQ Manager ensuring all sites meet our stringent site safety protocols
  • Hold weekly/fortnightly team meetings
  • Ability to liaise with clients and their senior representatives in a professional and commercial manner
  • Sound and comprehensive technical knowledge, with the experience and ability to attend site and “ask the right questions” and direct the team accordingly to reduce and mitigate risk to the company
  • Problem solving capability and solutions drive approach
  • Review commercial contracts and the ability to identify risk and suggest alternative solutions
  • Build solid relationships with service providers, suppliers, and contractors
  • Sound negotiation skills
  • Oversee and manage project specific supply chain and procurement procedures working closely with other internal departments
  • Assist the estimating and sales department with future opportunities and tenders where required, and attend tender meetings/site inspections from time to time
  • Attend internal handover meetings between estimating and constructing departments and negotiate/confirm internal budgets accordingly
  • Preparing of project budgets and allocations
  • Implement and refine project management framework and procedures to maximise team output and productivity
  • Implement Project Control Sheets, review and provide regular updates and reporting to Operations and Senior Management
  • Must have the ability to review and understand figures and allocations including budgets/profit/loss/margins etc and provide updates and reports on the progress of all projects to management
  • Forecasting resource requirements for future and upcoming projects and have the ability to identify deficiencies in resourcing and support
  • Subcontractor and supplier procurement, including negotiation of terms and conditions and issuing purchase orders and contracts for projects
 Ideally you will have:
  • Commercial and business acumen
  • Must have civil construction experience
  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Building and Construction or equivalent
  • Ideally Supervisors Certificate or Builders licence
  • Experience in Electrical substations (preferred – NOT ESSENTIAL).
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Outlook, and Sage 300 Construction (also known as Sage Timberline Office)
  • 5 years plus Australian experience
  • Ability to accurately calculate and read plans and drawings
  • Current driver’s license and own transport to work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work to meet deadlines
  • Able to work in a team-focused and professional environment
  • Keen learner, enthusiastic and acts with integrity
