Distribution Project Engineer

Great opportunity has just arisen for a Project Engineer with Project Management experience (+qualifications) for a global company based in the Southern Sydney area. 

This long term Project Engineering contract role will be part of the Fuels and Infrastructure division. Your experience in Project Management and sector in project engineering of multi-disciplinary $0.1M-$5M projects in a hazardous material industry or Liquid Fuel industry (Retail, Supply Chain or Refining) would be highly regarded. 


Primary Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this role is to provide engineering support, or Project Engineering of technical projects as required in Distribution Terminal, Aviation Terminal, Depot & Pipeline facilities. 
This support or Project Engineering is to improve the performance, capability, or legislative compliance at the facilities.

  •  Provide engineering support to national Operations teams in order to support efforts to maintain and improve terminal safety, reliability and performance objectives
  •  Provide engineering support to the Project Engineering team & Distribution Capital & Projects Lead for project work supporting efforts to maintain and improve efficiency objectives & Marketing development proposals.
  •  Work with key stakeholders, clients & project team members to achieve optimal project outcomes through the application of required project management principles across the national Ampol Terminal network.


Duties:

  • Develop robust project plans to ensure effective planning for resources (including people & funding)
  • Develop accurate project cost estimates & assist in actively managing cash flows including approvals, forecasting & payment.
  • Ensure project quality in terms of reliability & operability
  • Ensure application of engineering discipline in execution of all projects.  This will include:
  • Ensuring compliance with approved standards & processes
  • Applying the principles of process safety and behavioural safety including risk assessment, Hazard and Operability studies, Management of Change and Pre-Start Safety Reviews
  • Effectively use contract and consulting resources as approved to support project design, and execution.  This will include:
  • Working with Procurement and Legal teams to develop appropriate tendering strategies to optimise project outcomes.
  • Ensure appropriate contracts are in place with vendors, consultants and contractors as required.
  • Managing contractor performance, including safety performance, quality, schedule and costs throughout projects.

Position has no direct reports but has a cross functional relationship with staff in other teams such as -

  • Facility Maintenance Coordinators
  • Terminal Operations teams
  • Procurement team
  • Terminal R&M teams – Mechanical, Tanks, & EIS
  • Supply & Logistics teams

Scope of role:

  • Selection of engineering technology for small to medium projects
  • Contractor & consultant selection
  • Recommendation of preferred project scope for projects $1M-$5M
  • Safety management
  • Approval of variations within Project guidelines
  • All decisions are made within Delegation of Authority guidelines.


Qualifications:

  • Essential:  Tertiary qualification in Engineering
  • Desirable:  Project Management certification beneficial

Experience:

  • Essential:  Experience in project engineering of multi-disciplinary $0.1M-$5M projects in a hazardous material industry
  • Desirable:  Experience in the Liquid Fuel industry (Retail, Supply Chain or Refining) beneficial
