Electronics Engineer

A position now exists for an Electronic Software Engineer in one of the nations premier research facilities and home to Australia's nuclear science and technical expertise.
The Electronics Engineer is responsible for developing, operating and maintaining electronic hardware, firmware and software for the operation of neutron scattering instruments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain operation of neutron detectors, electronic hardware and software and embedded data acquisition systems for all operational instruments.
  • Strong ability to fault find, diagnose, and repair bugs within the system - neutron beam alignment.
  • A strong knowledge of the design process, the development of existing systems and maintenance, able to understand the scientific language.
  • Create, revise and update source code, documentation (user manual, design manual, troubleshooting guides and maintenance procedures), drawings and issue tracker to ensure instrument configuration and issues are accurately documented as per the Quality System under standard ISO9001.
  • Must be a good communicator and coordinate with other team members.
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics or Bachelor of Science in Computing and/or Physics and/or Mathematics.
  • 5+ years experience in developing VHDL or Verilog code, and C/C++ code for device control to work on a range of software and hardware developments on nuclear research projects. 
Software development and support
  • C, C++ XML, embedded systems and Networking
  • Windows, Linux and variants, ability to set up systems
Electronics Hardware, design and support
  • Digital design and support of FPGA, GBit Serial Fibre, Ethernet, Embedded Systems
  • Schematic capture and PCB Design.
FPGA Firmware development.
  • Altium electronic design software
