Engineer ( Systems Risk & Compliance )

Position Objective 

To undertake monitoring, assessment and reporting of landfill operations to determine compliance with environmental obligations.
  • To develop and implement solutions to address areas of non-compliance and opportunities for process improvement
  • To develop, implement and maintain and effective environmental management system and implement solutions to address areas of non-compliance.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Continuously assess the environmental performance of the Refuse Disposal Facility (RDF) (landfill and transfer station) against EPA licence requirements and the RDFs Environmental Management Plan.
  • Undertake monitoring and assessment of data related to leachate, landfill gas, amenity and soil management.
  • Manage consultants undertaking environmental monitoring, statutory auditing, landfill gas management or leachate management work
  • Analyse monitoring data to identify emerging issues and tack long term trends
  • Develop and implement improvement and rectification works to address areas of noncompliance or improvement opportunities
  • Develop and implement solutions for long term sustainable management of leachate, landfill gas and related matters
  • Report environmental performance internally and externally as required
  • Develop, implement and maintain and effective environmental management system for the site operations
  • Assess and interpret emerging environmental issues relevant to landfill operations
  • Preparation of approvals documentation related to future site developments (e.g. EPA works approvals, Council planning permits)
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with skills and abilities as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time to time.
Specialist Skills and Knowledge
  • Sound knowledge of environmental requirements related to waste management and landfill operations
  • Administration, budgeting and financial procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and plan activities of staff, contractors, plant and machinery.
  • Ability to read plans and estimates quantities and costs for minor works, variations and external works.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and practices.
  • Experience in Contract Management.
 
Qualifications and Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Engineering, Science or a related filed
  • Commercial business operation acumen.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience waste management including Landfill operations.
