The Opportunity

The Shire has an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the role of Finance and Administration Manager:
  • Vacant role, initial contract with a view to long-term placement;
  • Based under 2 hours North-East of Perth; and
  • Competitive salary package offered including rental subsidy on offer.
The role has an anticipated commencement date of late April or early May 2020.

Role Requirements:
  • In close cooperation with the CEO and Finance Consultant, the Finance & Administration Manager (FAM) is responsible for managing all transactional financial operations and front-desk administrative operations for the Shire. Key areas of contribution include; financial and business planning, customer service delivery and implementation of information technology business solutions and resources (including budget) management.
  • Supervise Administration, Finance Officers, CSO, Librarians and Cleaners and ensure annual Performance Reviews are undertaken.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer for approval on the selection and management of officers in the administration and finance section.
  • Practice joint responsibility with the Financial Consultant, in overseeing the Shire's Computer and Information Technology System and ensure its optimum performance and integrity.
  • Ensure that all necessary statutory returns required by the Department of Local Government, WA Grants Commission, Western Australian Local Government Association and the Australian Bureau of Statistics are completed when required.
  • Ensure Shire leases are current and consistently applied to all organisations, and the lease register is maintained.

The Successful Candidate to Ideally Possess:
  • Experience in a similar Management role in a finance position in Local Government or business sector environment.
  • Previous management experience in Local Government or relevant field with developed financial management skills as they relate to Local Government.
  • Detailed/thorough knowledge of Accounting Standards, professional reporting requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and provide financial accountancy services in a similar-sized organisation.
  • Detailed / thorough knowledge of taxation especially GST, FBT.
  • Relevant qualifications or significant experience in accounting or financial management.
  • Qualifications or relevant training in the operation and selection of information technology as it relates to finance. (Microsoft Suite, SynergySoft and Trellis), including operation and application.
  • Qualifications in Leadership and/or Management.
  • Hold a valid Driver's Licence, C class or higher.
