Heavy Vehicle Inspector

State government body is seeking an Inspector for their fleet of Heavy Vehicles.
Ideally they are looking for someone who might have RMS HVIS experience, is a mechanic by trade who has an eye for detail who has now moved into an office/ administrative role, and they are willing to consider just a MR licence level.
The applicants need to be fit to climb up/over/under/ etc a heavy vehicle to undertake any quality assurance inspections.
 
This role is responsible for undertaking the inspection, acceptance, quality auditing, familiarisation and evaluation of appliances (i.e. firefighting fleet) whilst maintaining strong engagement with various stakeholders, such that the organisation can support and improve service delivery.
 
The role involves significant travel (fully reimbursed with transport provided) around NSW.
 
The successful applicant will be required to work with a team of Engineering Inspectors and will be required to liaise with volunteer members, suppliers and vehicle fabricators across both the new and second hand appliance (i.e. firefighting fleet) production and refurbishment schedules. Knowledge of heavy vehicle compliance, auto-mechanical knowledge and experience and familiarity with custom built bodies. Additionally, candidates should be able to demonstrate their ability to interpret (automotive) CAD drawings, models, detailed specifications and standards.
 
 
This position is 3 – 6 months with a high potential to go permanent – Based in Sydney West – Glendenning
 
Essential Requirements:
 
  • A Diploma in a relevant discipline, or equivalent expertise (preferably heavy vehicle auto-mechanical related).
  • HR Drivers licence and the ability to travel.
  • Experience in engineering design principles which includes the interpretation of drawings, specifications and standards.
  • During periods of major fire activity, the incumbent may be required to support operational management activities consistent with their skills and background.
