Network Design Engineer

We are looking for a Network Design Engineer for our client - a well-established, multinational company that works across a range of different sectors. They are a leading provider of systems, products and services in the defence, security and civil markets within Australia and throughout the world.

Reporting to work Package manager in site Installation Design Team, the System Design Engineer is primarily responsible for the design and delivery of equipment rack layouts, cable management solutions, patch panel and switch port allocation plans, cable schedules and schematic diagrams to support the installation of complex mission critical IT systems.

It is a contract job for 6 to 12 months with excellent hourly rates.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Initiating and adhering to internal peer review process for each set of design artefacts;
  • Identifying and providing recommendations to the engineering team on potential non-conformances relating to the design scope
  • Identification of risks and opportunities associated with scope;
  • Identifying and encourage industry best practice within the engineering environment;
  • Attend meetings, as needed and as delegated by the relevant manager;
  • Collaborating with systems engineers and network design team to ensure there is alignment between input and output design artefacts;
  • Ensuring conformance to project system requirements throughout the entire design process;
  • Review/update the engineering deployment documents to produce as built documentation based on each site installation;
  • Participate in site surveys for the verification of design assumptions and constraints;
  • Maintaining strong communication with internal teams, partners, sub-contractors as required; and
  • Ensuring conformance of all the installation activities under the Heath, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management Plan

Skills and Experience required for the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in IT, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Systems Engineering or other relevant qualification with solid experience in the design and installation of networked computer system solutions, including large scale structured cabling systems;
  • Previous experience in the installation, verification and validation of hardware systems, including installation practices and standards;
  • Experience with detailed design hardware and associated connecting infrastructure
  • Experience with network architecture diagrams in MS excel format
  • Data centre & AutoCAD experience
  • Both Fibre and Cooper experience
  • Familiarity with Agile working principles and the use of Jira ticketing systems;
  • Basic understanding of AC & DC electrical systems; and
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and methodologies.
