Senior Engineer - Water Assets

Ignite is seeking a experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer with a mim. of 5 years experience in Australia in Drainage and /or floodplain management role to assist the Principle Engineer in a local Government department for the next 3 months.


Primary purpose of this role is to;
  • Develop and implement ecologically sustainable water quality policies, strategies and work practices for the Council. 
  • Develop water infrastructure capacity and quality improvement projects and programs for the Local Government Area.
  • Provide specialist technical support to the development application evaluation process.
  • To effectively implement asset management best practice for water asset infrastructure.
 
Essential Criteria:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a drainage and/or floodplain management role.
  • Advanced problem solving and decision making skills especially in regards to storm water drainage and water quality management.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Equal Employment Opportunity, Occupational Health and Safety and Cultural Diversity principles.
 

Desirable Criteria:
  • Knowledge and experience with water/flood modelling software (DRAINS, TUFLOW, MUSIC) and spatial software (Esri Arcview GIS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the functions, obligations and operations of Local Government.


Major Objects to be achieved by the Senior Engineer:
 
  • To be held accountable for working conditions under the control of the position and for detecting any unsafe or unhealthy conditions or behaviour and to take immediate steps to investigate and rectify any risks to health, safety and welfare arising from any activity.
  • Manage and coordinate service delivery arrangements through internal and external service providers by establishing and managing service level agreements and/or contracts.
  • Develop and manage effectively, the development of floodplain risk management plans and storm water management policies and strategies.
  • Develop and implement storm water management policies and strategies to deliver appropriate stormwater quality, structural and capacity improvements.
  • Develop detailed storm water drainage standards and specifications for use by the local department.
  • Develop stormwater upgrade and water quality improvement works programs.
  • Ensure the asset management plans for drainage and water quality infrastructure are effectively implemented
  • Ensure major development works undertaken as part of the development approval process does not detrimentally affect existing storm water system.
  • Develop ecologically sustainable practices and procedures for the Unit’s maintenance and capital works programs.
