Senior Traffic Engineer - 6 Months 

South Western Sydney council seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer for an Initial 6 month contract.

Your new role and accountabilities and duties:
  • Evaluate, appraise and recommend appropriate infrastructure needs for intersections, roads, cycleways, footpaths and other traffic facility items.
  • Lead in the coordination of traffic management advice relevant to events, filming and major road works as they impact on public infrastructure.
  • Lead in the coordination and management of Council’s approval processes for traffic related projects including traffic committee reports, Council reports, minuting, and implementation of Council resolutions.
  • Manage and maintain traffic information databases.
  • Work with various Council branches to provide expert technical input on traffic related matters for Council projects, and the enforcement of traffic related legislation and regulation.
  • Liaise with external agencies with respect to local issues such as public transport services, major infrastructure and road safety considerations.
  • Provide input into the reporting to Council, State and Federal Government agencies on progress in the implementation of Council’s traffic related programs.
  • Represent Council and provide community liaison as required.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are achieved in relation to implementation of Traffic and Transport Team projects and programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures that impact upon all aspects of the role.
  • Lead responsibility for Road Occupancy Permit Applications including cranes, skips and Works Zones.
  • Lead responsibility for the heavy vehicle route network.
  • Lead the implementation and analysis of traffic modelling.
  • Lead responsibility for the coordination and assessment of crash data to support infrastructure upgrades.
  • Lead in the development, coordination and implementation of internal or consultant prepared traffic studies.
  • Lead responsibility for existing street lighting assessment to support infrastructure upgrades.
  • Prepare business cases and funding applications and project manage traffic and transportation projects.
What you'll need to succeed:
  • Tertiary qualifications in traffic/civil engineering or relevant discipline or extensive experience in a similar or related role.
  • Broad and specific knowledge and experience of traffic and transport management functions and operations and relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral and the ability to relate well to internal and external clients.
  • Capacity to make decisions where there are competing needs and to act with probity at all times.
  • High level negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Highly developed project and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated high level application of analytical, creative thinking and problem solving skills and ability to write analytical and logical reports drawing justified conclusions.
  • Ability to develop and review processes and procedures applied to improve service delivery.
  • Performance and outcome orientation in line with a Delivery Program.
  • High proficiency in computer applications, including MS Project, MS Access and Traffic / Transport modelling software.
  • Ability to work within and to foster team cooperation and achievement.
  • Willingness to undertake or currently holding relevant road safety and traffic management accreditations.
