Stormwater Design Engineer

Immediate start for an Experienced - Stormwater Design Engineer.

Duration: One year contract

Position Purpose:

  • To contribute to the provision of safe, effective and efficient Stormwater Design to the Community.
  • To develop and maintain Council’s contacts with the community, government authorities and other clients of Council.
  • Act in accordance with the NSW WHS Act 2011, WHS Regulation 2011 and the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System to ensure a safe place of work.

Qualifications and Expierience:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in the survey, investigation and design of stormwater drainage infrastructure and estimates
  • Understanding of water sensitive urban design, particularly with Bioretention systems and detention basins
  • Project management experience ideally in a design office
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and suitable design experience with water engineering applications such as DRAINS, HEC-RAS, RAFTS, MIKEII, TUFLOW and MUSIC
Ability to communicate clearly and work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Current ‘C’ Class driver’s License
  • Design experience with CAD, 12D Criteria


1          Authority The incumbent has the authority to take any reasonable action that is consistent with the responsibilities of the position and to ensure the safe and efficient undertaking of work activities.
The incumbent’s authority is subject to any limitation imposed by the management team, organisational policies, procedures and work instructions.

2          Key accountabilities Position specific
  • Ensure that all allocated design tasks are completed by agreed dates and in accordance with agreed performance targets.
  • Ensure that requests/complaints on all designs allocated to the section are processed promptly within the agreed time.
  • Ensure requests for all design inputs for the Asset Design unit are completed within the agreed time frame

3          Duties
  • Conduct or supervise flood studies and trunk drainage investigations, and interpret and report on findings
  • prepare engineering stormwater drainage designs reflecting current best practice, and maintain appropriate environmental and engineering standards in accordance with Council’s Engineering Development Guidelines
  • Liaise with stakeholders and internal and external consultants throughout the design process
  • Supervise external consultants and review their work
  • Manage design projects
  • Other duties as directed by the Team Leader
  • Other duties as directed consistent with the operations of Council.
