Strategic Communications

This is a senior role in Strategic Communications and an opportunity to be part of one of Australia’s biggest social reforms. You will take the lead developing and delivering internal and external communication strategies for this Federal Government agency.

As an experienced communications professional you will provide strategic advice, develop communication plans, produce high-quality content and manage the delivery of content across a variety of channels. You may also have responsibility for managing other members of the team and will motivate your team to produce high-quality content for a range of communication channels and a variety of audiences.

Your duties will include:
  • Partnering with business areas and key program leads to understand their communication needs, and providing strategic and considered advice
  • Leading/contributing to the regular development, delivery and review of strategic communications content
  • Developing and managing the implementation, tracking and measurement of communications strategies, keeping them on time and within budget
  • Preparing high-quality, clear and accessible written content that meets the needs of participants and other audiences
  • Scanning and interpreting a complex government and social landscape to identify and mitigate reputational risks associated with communication activities
  • Fostering creativity and innovation in content creation across a range of channels, embedding best practice and new skills in your team.
Key skills and attributes
  • Extensive experience in the preparation and implementation of strategic communication plans
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with influence
  • The ability to work proactively in a fast-paced and project orientated workplace, delivering high-quality content often in short timeframes
  • Resilience in a changing environment and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high work standards
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to deliver clear and strategic advice, including to senior leaders
  • Strong self-organisation and leadership skills with the capacity to lead and guide a high-performing team to deliver quality outcomes.
Essential requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in a communications, public relations, journalism or relevant work experience
  • Experience providing communications support in a large, multi-site and complex organisation
  • Experience leading teams, operating dynamically and prioritising multiple programs of work in an environment of significant change.
