System Assurance Engineer

We are looking for a driven and experienced System Assurance Engineer for our client - a well-established, multinational company that works across a range of different sectors. They are a leading provider of systems, products and services in the defense, security and civil markets within Australia and throughout the world.

Reporting to the System Assurance Manager you will be responsible for contributing to the product or system design by facilitating and executing the RAMS(Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) activities in according with our client's internal processes, necessary regulatory and legislative frameworks and customer requirements. The System Assurance or RAMS engineer works as part of the project teams to provide the necessary expertise to enable project teams to devise develop and maintain reliable and economically viable solutions to meet the needs of our customers.

It is a contract job for 6 months with a view for another 6 months extension. The job offers excellent hourly rates.


  • The System Assurance Engineer is responsible for performing the RAMS requirements analysis, technical studies, design tasks, systems integration, verification and engineering support activities to provide new and upgraded systems for projects and bids in the area of RAMS.
  • Identify and implement RAM and Safety Assurance processes in accordance with the requirements of the Rail Safety National Law.
  • Generate RAM and System Safety Assurance Plans that lay out processes and requirements on RAM and Safety Assurance for projects from concept to completion.
  • Develop Safety Assurance Reports and Statements to justify achievement of Safety So Far As is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP).
  • Develop and manage Hazard Logs / Risk Register for recording Hazards / Risks associated with different project scopes.
  • Plan, organize for and facilitate Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System & Interface Hazard Analysis (SHA & IHA)
  • Conduct Safety / Risk Assessments concerning design modifications and / or nonconformances using Safety Change Management processes.
  • Construct Safety Arguments utilizing the Goal Structure Notation (GSN).
  • implementation of related engineering programs.
  • Attend and participate in regular departmental and project meetings.
  • Attend and participate in technical reviews (both internal and external).

Skill and Experience required for the role:

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering - ideally from Mechanical or Electrical.
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience as a Safety Assurance Engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking quantitative and qualitative analyses including as Fault Tree Analysis, Goal Structuring Notation (GSN), Event Tree Analysis and ALARP/SFAIRP demonstration.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating or providing safety input to hazard identification / risk workshops.
  • Familiarity with the Systems Engineering life cycle and appropriate models including the Vee lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability in the application of safety-related standards such as AS/NZS 4801 Safety Management Systems, ISO/IEC 61508 Functional Safety of EEPE Safety Related Systems, and EN 50126/ 8/9 Specification and demonstration of RAMS to the design of systems and tools within an operational or project environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of safety responsibilities under Rail Safety National Law and WHS legislation.
