System Safety Manager - Aviation

Our client is a government owned organisation providing safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible services to the aviation industry. Each year they manage over four million aircraft movements carrying more than 154 million passengers, and provide air navigation services across 11 per cent of the world’s airspace. They operate 29 air traffic control towers at international and regional airports, and provide aviation rescue firefighting services at 26 Australian airports.
 
About the role
Your role will see you providing high level leadership and support to a program delivering updates to mission critical and corporate networks. This will ensure existing systems remain connected to deliver safe efficient and effective operations. The overall transformation involves a transition to a new IP network with new terrestrial, microwave and satellite components moving to a SIAM model. You will be instrumental in the reduction of potential errors, injury and risk.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Management of safety requirements in alignment with the safety management system.
  • Facilitate activities including hazard identification and risk management workshops
  • Maintenance of risk management databases for each project
  • Ensure operational safety and human factors programs are completed in accordance with planned activities outlined in the safety plan
  • Development, production and maintenance of required safety management system documentation
  • Make sure safety and human factor outputs are developed and archived for compliance purposes
  • Identification and provision of safety related training and coaching in support of the program
  • Leadership and coordination of the projects safety aspects
 
Skills & experience
  • Bachelors or post graduate qualifications in system safety engineering and human factors
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Business or safety disciplines is highly desirable
  • Long term proven experience in aviation or government sectors
  • Previous experience working with industry safety standards and frameworks advantageous
  • Demonstrated highly developed knowledge of safety management systems and human factors combined with extensive experience in the practical application to change management
  • Highly effective communication skills with a strong ability to engage in negotiation, conflict resolution and relationship management
  • Strong knowledge and application of risk management methodologies
  • High level problem solving capability
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to plan, be proactive and deliver targets to deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple projects to deliver desired outcomes
  • Strong understanding of work health and safety and project management methodologies
  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and retain a Baseline Security Clearance
