Technical Writer High Performance Computing

Ignite is working with a flagship federal government entity to recruit a Technical Writer to work under the direction of the Delivery Stream Lead of the supercomputer mid-term upgrade. This is an outstanding 12-month opportunity to work on a project which has direct and indirect influence upon the lives of all Australia's residents.

Role requirements:
  • Work as part of sprint teams to deliver quarterly planning increment objectives. For each sprint, identify the documentation that needs to be update or created to enable each scientific suite to go into production one the new supercomputer.
  • Work with key stakeholders in the department's Service & Infrastructure Management Program, Planning & Architecture Program, and Security Governance, Risk and Assurance team to identify content requirements for all new and uplifted documentation. Liaise with downstream users to understand service level expectations for each suite.
  • Based on business requirements, work with subject-matter experts in Research to Operations and key stakeholders above to capture the necessary details to create or uplift required documentation.
  • Take the lead role in creating and updating documentation to a standard that meets operational requirements.
The technical writer must also:
  • Comply with all department work, health and safety policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
  • Uphold a commitment to APS Values, Employment Principles, Code of Conduct and the department's Social Justice Strategy.

Experience and skills requirements:

Experience writing technical documents for operational information systems. For example, experience writing:
  • Solution Architecture Descriptions
  • Go-Live Documents
  • Service Level Agreements
  • Business Continuity Plans
  • Standard Operating Procedures, or
  • Security Risk Assessments
Other skills required:
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent liaison skills with subject matter experts
  • Strong capabilities in business process analysis
  • An ability to work with people across all levels of the organisation
  • An ability to work with limited direction to complete the work within a tight timeframe
  • Experience working in project-based delivery teams.

Experience in organisational change in operational scientific or ICT environments is also desirable.
