Urban Designer ( Technical)

Join a leading council in Melbourne’s west on a contract basis, the successful candidate will undertake a role in the city design team providing expertise in the area of urban design including and preparation of precinct structure plans, strategy plans, development plans and undertake policy research/development, particularly on projects with an urban design focus.To coordinate and facilitate the preparation, implementation and review of design guidelines, policies, strategies and plans within the muncipalityTo ensure that development proposals across the organisation, including planning permit applications and capital projects are prepared having strong regard for good urban design principles.
 

 SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • Highly-developed written, verbal and graphical communication skills, with the ability to prepare, develop, present on a variety of subjects as required, clearly and concisely for a range of audiences.
  • Highly-developed liaison skills with the ability to gain co-operation and build rapport with Council staff, government agencies and external stakeholders to develop effective and productive working relationships and achieve positive organisational outcomes.
  •  
  • Ability to identify stakeholder/customer needs and expectations, decide appropriate action and respond accordingly.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating and coordinating community and stakeholder engagement, including assisting in conducting public meetings and forums with the ability to deal with difficult situations and present a positive Council image.
 
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 
  • A recognised tertiary qualification in Urban Design/Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Substantial and demonstrated experience in a broad range urban design projects, including subdivision design.
  • Substantial and demonstrated experience of working with a range of stakeholders to achieve improved design outcomes while maintaining effective working relationships.
 
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams, preparing project briefs and delivering high quality outputs.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking community and stakeholder consultation on a range of projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of computer software programs including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A current valid Victorian Drivers Licence.
